Particle of sound put in two places at once

By the rules of quantum physics, when an elementary particle can move down either of two paths, it does not choose one immediately. Instead, it lives two parallel lives until its position is detected at only one particular place. This feat, called superposition, can be performed by quantum particles such as electrons and photons, which are quanta of matter and light, respectively.
